SHPE LM Aero held its second annual charity golf tournament on June 7, 2013. The purpose of the SHPE LM Aero golf tournament raises funds to be applied towards our scholarship program. The golf tournament was held at Squaw Creek Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas and drew 20 participants. The tournament was a success drawing players from within Lockheed Martin and other local area businesses. The prime silver sponsors where Lockheed Martin Corporation and Lantana Communications, Inc. from Arlington, Texas. Darden International, parent company of Olive Garden, and representatives from Rep-Logic Sales, Perales Realty Inc., and Luminescent Systems Inc. also sponsored the event. We grossed over $5,000 in sponsorships, raffle prizes, and donations and made 61 percent profit. Several local businesses donated gift certificates and giveaways for raffle prizes. The net profit will be applied to our scholarship program. We plan to award four $1,000 scholarships this year. SHPE LMAERO received 12 applications from prospective local Tarrant County high school graduating seniors who plan to major with a STEM degree while attending college this Fall. Our scholarship program promotes academic excellence among high school students who plan to pursue degrees in science and engineering by demonstrating high academic performance, award recognition, leadership skills, community involvement, and excellent communication writing skills. We plan to present the four scholarship awards during a scholarship recognition luncheon event and tour of the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics manufacturing facility in July. |
